The coastal footpath is largely considered to be anything between 68 and 77 miles long – subject to which routes are taken when various options are encountered – not to mention any coastal erosion or fallen tree diversions. For schedule-planning purposes, we now work on an average of 73 miles. We will also be climbing a total ascent of about 900m, including the highest point of the walk on Tennyson Down at 172m.

All of our round the island walks may present some fairly tough physical and mental challenges. The coastal path will largely be covered, although some slightly alternative routes will be offered subject to the weather and individual walking capabilities.

Unfortunately the walks may not be suitable for people with a walking disability, and the complete walk is not really suitable for most dogs.

Walkers are free to make their own accommodation arrangements, but if travelling to the Island you may find it easier to base yourself in Ventnor. Carry as little as possible. There are plenty of opportunities along the route to purchase food and drinks, and we will be stopping for lunch and refreshment breaks.

The walks will particularly appeal to anyone wanting a fairly reasonable physical challenge and some like-minded company.

We will not be directly attempting to raise any money for charity, but please feel free to do so if you wish.

We look forward to your company, and hope that the weather is kind to us, the beaches clean, the bars plentiful and the blisters few!

Saturday 17 May Shalfleet to Ventnor (36.5 miles)

Walkers will meet up at the New Inn at Shalfleet and set off at 0730.

Bembridge low tide is about 0830, high tide is 1445, so beach walking from Whitecliff Bay to Seaview may be possible.

The aim is to reach the Isle of Wight paddling pool on Ventnor seafront by 1930.

Sunday 18 May Ventnor to Shalfleet (36.5 miles)

The walk will resume from the Isle of Wight paddling pool on Ventnor seafront at 0730.

The New Inn at Shalfleet should be reached before 1930.
