Why is the Isle of Wight so called? Why did King Charles 1’s ill-fated attempt to escape from Carisbrooke Castle fail? What caused the Royal George to sink on a still day in the Solent? The Isle of Wight has, over the centuries, been the subject of a wealth of myths and legends and a variety of stories, some true, some of more questionable origin.

Whether you are a true Isle of Wight “caulkhead”, an “overner” who has come from the mainland, or even a “grockle” (tourist), you’ll be sure to enjoy this story telling set from Sue Bailey.

Sue Bailey went the long way round to come from her birthplace Southampton to the Isle of Wight, where she has lived since 2000.

Her route took her via Norfolk, Merseyside and Wisconsin! Sue is an accomplished story teller and can entertain audiences of all ages.

She tells us: “I love stories, and the ideas and images they can convey and I believe there is an important place for oral storytelling, alongside reading, in our culture. Story telling can be more creative as each story evolves slightly each time it is told. Stories can be adapted, not tied to the words on the page. It enables the listeners to create their own imaginative pictures and images as the story unfolds.”
