Following the success of the first VBG: Lecture Series hosted by Professor Robin McInnes OBE FRSA, the next event has been confirmed for Tuesday 15th October.

Tanja Rebel is the next speaker to take part in this new, monthly series and shall be presenting her lecture titled, Philosophy and the Planet: An Eco-Philosophical Journey.

Tanja’s talk aims to take the audience on a journey through environmental ethics otherwise known as Eco-Philosophy. She shall be comparing current anthropocentric (human-centred) outlooks with the emerging eco-centric views of nature and will be discussing a number of branches on the Eco-Philosophical tree, such as: Ecoholism, Ecoutilitarianism, Ecofeminism and Ecosophy or Deep Ecology.

Tanja’s lecture shall be drawing on the work of notable thinkers such as Jame Lovelock, Peter Singer, Vandana Shiva, Arne Naess, Henryk Skolimowski and E.F. Schumacher and debating important questions on how the earth should be treated.

The lecture begins at 7pm on the 15th October and shall be taking place in edulis restaurant, located on the lower floor of the Visitor Centre at Ventnor Botanic Garden. Entry to this lecture is free, however reserving seats in advance is recommended.

Seats can be reserved by contacting Ventnor Botanic Garden on (01983) 855397, option 3 or via email, [email protected].
