A selection of beautiful choral works from the Renaissance to the present day, a cappella. Camerata, who were very proud to perform with Karl Jenkins at the Royal Albert Hall earlier in the Spring, are again performing on the island, with their subtle blend of voices and haunting, relaxing music.
Works from the 16th and 17th centuries include a shortened version of the Miserere, Allegri's sacred choral standard. The accessible Gregorian chant for all voices may have remained an unrecorded part of papal devotions in the Sistine Chapel during Holy Week had it not been cheekily transcribed, after one hearing, by a teenage Mozart.
The evening's music progresses into the modern era via 19th Century French settings of equally ancient religious pieces. One is Durufle's enchanting Ubi Caritas. Royal wedding composer Paul Mealor's Ave Maria will bring the programme into the present, along with Danish/American composer Morten Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium and former Camerata collaborator, and modern romantic composer Patrick Hawes' Quanta Qualia.
The tickets are £7 /£4 and can be purchased via the Internet from the choir's website.
