The Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra have an exciting programme in store for this Saturday, 25th May, at Medina Theatre starting at 7.15pm.

Distinguished musician, Stephen Anthony Brown, is to be guest conductor in extravagant works by Mozart, Prokofiev, Richard Strauss, and Benjamin Britten, whose centenary falls in 2013.

Particularly appropriate for our sea bound environment, the Britten piece, which will open the concert, is the extraordinarily evocative ‘Four Sea Interludes’, orchestral pieces originally written for his opera Peter Grimes.

The orchestra will then be joined by the young bassoon soloist, Christina Marroni for a performance of the bassoon concerto by Mozart. After graduating from Manchester University, Christina was awarded a scholarship to the Royal College of Music. She has also studied in Lyon and has performed widely both in this country and abroad.

Following the interval, the orchestra will play the well known and playful ‘March and Scherzo’ from Prokofiev's opera, ‘For the Love of Three Oranges’.

The concert will conclude with a performance of the wonderful ‘Der Rosenkavalier Suite’ by Richard Strauss, a work renowned for its tremendous melodies.

This really is a concert not to be missed and its varied and exciting programme makes it suitable for all ages. Tickets can be booked via the Medina Theatre Box Office, £13.50 adult, £6 children.
