Peacock angell

Eclectic folk duo Peacock Angell - namely Ruth Angell and Sid Peacock - who were here for two enjoyable gigs last spring are returning to the Isle of Wight.

Fiddle player/guitarist/singer Ruth Angell is well known to Island audiences. She is a member of Ashley Hutchings Rainbow Chaser's who first came to the Island in 2007 to play a sell out concert at Quay Arts.

The band came back to the Quay the following year, and during that visit they also performed an intimate gig in the library at Farringford, Freshwater. Ruth has a keen interest in setting Tennyson's poetry to music and as a result of that, she and Sid were invited to sing some songs after the dinner at the Yenyson Bi-Centennial celebration in the summer of 2009.

Later that year Ruth returned to the Island to play fiddle for the Welsh bad Mabon at their Quay Arts gig. That performance is now commercially available on DVD.

Guitarist and singer Sid Peacock is from Bangor in Northern Ireland. He works actively as a composer, producer and educator. Whilst Ruth's influences mainly come from folk and classical music, Sid's are more drawn from jazz and blues and there is a certain Tom Waits like quality to his singing.

As a result, we can expect a very diverse range of songs and tunes ranging from Irish jigs to more sensitive and reflective pieces, as well as some thoughtful adaptations of Tennyson's poetry.

Since they were here last year, Ruth and Sid have recorded a first class debut CD which is entitled 'Love Forgiven'. To discover more about their music please visit www.peacockangell.com
