20th Century Isle of Wight Pottery Exhibition 'At the End of a Rainbow' Canna Room, Ventnor Botanic Garden, Isle of Wight Weekend of Saturday, 19th and Sunday 20th March 2011

10 am to 5 pm - Admission Free

Now in its third year, Ventnor Botanic Garden is to host this popular historical Isle of Wight pottery exhibition 'At the End of a Rainbow'.

The main aim of the exhibition is to inform the public of the Island's rich ceramics heritage. Pottery has been found on the Island dating to the Neolithic period. This exhibition focuses on potters and potteries from the 20th century, a period which produced a great diversity of work, ranging from terracotta sculptures to delicate porcelain.

Displays will include hundreds of pieces from over thirty Island makers, in earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. These include work by: Joe Lester, John Reilly, John and Sheila Francis Chessell Porcelain, Haseley Manor Pottery, Brading Pottery, Don Beckley, Ken Scotcher, Wendy Franklin, Angela Buckland, Bembridge Pottery, Yellowsands Pottery, Tony Bristow, Andrew Bristow Bonchurch Pottery, Molly Attrill, Pauline Barnden, Yarmouth Pottery, Alum Bay Pottery . . . to name a few. Visitors can view photographic displays of pottery and potters, together with additional information about the potters and their work. Examples will also be available by some contemporary Island makers - and there will be a computer slideshow of pieces from private collections. Isle of Wight pottery books, cards and postcards also available.

Andrew Dowden will also be showing his distinctive contemporary ceramics at the exhibition - individually-designed, handmade and hand-carved wall plaques, tile panels and standing forms.

Visitors to previous exhibitions from the Island and the mainland, have been unaware and astounded by the diversity of work produced. The aim of the exhibition is also to highlight the work of Isle of Wight potters, past and present, in the hope that their contribution to the Island's rich pottery heritage will not be forgotten.
