Andrew and jeanne

Exhibition at Quarr Abbey - Thursday, 22 May to Tuesday, 27 May - 10am to 5pm - Free entry

Visions & Dimensions - an exhibition of contemporary ceramics and paintings - is Andew Dowden and Jeanne Mills-Holland's fourth show together at Quarr Abbey Art Gallery.

A carpenter for twenty years, Andrew was inspired to take up ceramics whilst watching a bowl being thrown on a wheel during research for a book on Isle of Wight pottery. Ideas for his distinctive and unique handmade and hand-carved ceramic forms and wall panels, derive from the Island's countryside and coast - tracks made by man and nature leaving their imprint on the earth. Surface texture and structure are his prime areas of interest, with form being more important than function. More recently, influences from archaeology, architecture and machinery have been incorporated into designs adding further dimension.

Jeanne Mills-Holland began her professional career as an engineering design draughtswoman and later became an art teacher. She now works in water-colours, oils, acrylics, porcelain and photography. Her paintings are influenced primarily by her fascination with water and her love of sailing, and incorporate local impressions of the shoreline and boats around Wootton.

Andrew and Jeanne will be available during the exhibition and will be happy to discuss their work with visitors. Exhibition pieces are available to purchase.
