Thursday, 19 to Tuesday 24 May - 10 am to 5 pm | Exhibition preview: Wednesday 18 May - 6-8 pm - all welcome
Three Isle of Wight artists have come together for the first time to present a unique exhibition in three different media.
Jeanne Mills-Holland began working life as an Engineering Design Draughtswoman before becoming an art teacher. She now works in oils, acrylics, clay and photography. Her display of oil paintings for this exhibition has been influenced by the Isle of Wight coastline and the basic abstract form of water.
Chris Dodd had a career as an architect during which he has received several design awards, the last of which was for the Kingsview Flats building in Ventnor. He has always grappled with the idea of making three-dimensional pictures to invade the space between the work and the eye of the viewer. This entirely new work incorporates timeless found objects with computer-generated backgrounds.
A carpenter for twenty years, Andrew Dowden was inspired to take up ceramics whilst watching a bowl being thrown on a wheel during research for a book on Isle of Wight pottery. Ideas for his distinctive handmade and hand-carved ceramic forms and wall panels, are derived from the surrounding countryside on the Island; tracks made by man and nature leaving their imprint on the earth. Architecture and machinery also inspire and add further interest to designs.
Open daily from 10 am to 5 pm, the artists will be available during this selling exhibition and will be happy to discuss their work with visitors. All welcome.
