Cultural expression

Boojum&Snark in association with the IWCC and photographer Holly Jolliffe has given five talented young photographers the opportunity to have their first exhibition.

Cultural Expression will feature images inspired by the themes of the Cultural Olympiad.

The photographic team include Medina High School students Yazmin Cooper and Ollie Tubb as well as Suzie Kidger, Emma Powell and Media Studies student Naomi Linton.

The Cultural Olympiad encourages young people to participate in the arts and celebrates the diversity of life. In exploring these themes the group have produced work that is highly individual and features unique interpretations.

Ollie Tubb has been inspired by craftsmen on the island and how their work is an expression of respect and love for their environment.

Suzie Kidger has explored the way props and accessories influence our perceptions.

Emma Powell seeks to creative narrative stories within her work by using toys, typography and adjusting depths of field

Yazmin Cooper examines how we can be trapped by apprehensions.

Naomi Linton looks at the phenomena of modern tribes and how being part of a group can still allow you to express individuality.

Over an 8 week period the group has met regularly. They have used Flickr to critique each others work and have been involved in every aspect of organization including writing press releases, marketing and promotion.
