West wight school comm. aug 31st no. 2

FRESHWATER & TOTLAND ARCHIVE GROUP is coordinating an event to commemorate the school that was on the site in Queens Road, Freshwater.

Built in 1906 the school went through a number of changes over the years, finally known as a West Wight Middle School. It was closed in 2011 and demolished in 2013 to make way for a housing estate.

Past pupils and staff have raised sufficient funds to have a commemorative stone inscribed, and this will be unveiled by the Island's High Sheriff, Robin Courage MBE, at 6.00 pm. The stone itself will be set on the Green, Queens Road, near to the site of the old school.

To start the evening the FAT SAMBA BAND will process up to the site.

The ceremony will be followed by refreshments and a display of photographs at the Wesley Hall(rear of Methodist Church, Brookside Road).

We hope this will be an opportunity for old friends to reunite!
