The last concert of West Wight Arts Association’s 2015/6 season will be given on April 9th in the Memorial Hall, Freshwater, by Amy Harman, bassoon and Ashley Wass, piano, starting at 7.00pm.

Born in London, Amy Harman studied at the Royal College of Music and at the Akademie Múzických in Prague. In 2011 she was appointed Principal Bassoon of the Philharmonia Orchestra at the age of 24, and in 2014 she was selected for representation by Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT).

Passionate about bringing the bassoon to a wider audience, in 2012 Amy appeared as a ‘flying soloist’ in Birmingham Opera’s premiere of Stockhausen’s Mittwoch aus Licht where she performed from a trapeze suspended above the audience.

Amy is a Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music.

Described as an ‘endlessly fascinating artist’, Ashley Wass is firmly established as one of the leading performers of his generation. He is the only British winner of the London International Piano Competition, prize winner at the Leeds Piano Competition, and a former BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist.

They will play JS Bach’s Gamba Sonata No.1 in G, Olav Berg’s Vertigo 6, an arrangement of a cantata by Mozart, Reynaldo Hahn’s Le Printemps, A Chloris , Sarabande et Cortège by Dutilleux and Ashley Wass will play some solo piano pieces.

Tickets (£12,00 adults, £2,00 students and children) are available from Totland Parish Office, 756028, from the website www.westwightarts.co.uk or at the door.
