Comedy, drama and romance where the only sound is music, The Artist is a 2011 homage to the era of silent movies.
It was written, directed, and co-edited by Michel Hazanavicius, produced by Thomas Langmann and stars Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo. The story takes place in Hollywood, between 1927 and 1932, and focuses on the relationship between an older silent film star and a rising young actress as silent cinema falls out of fashion and is replaced by the "talkies”.
In black and white with the musical sound track by Ludovic Bource, it won 5 Oscars and is the most awarded French film in history. Classification is PG and it lasts for 100 minutes.
Admission £5. You are also welcome to bring your own refreshments (inc. alcholic) and cushions to Gurnard Village Hall, 50 Worsley Road, Gurnard.
