Crash1

This controversial film provoked a press furore, led by the Daily Mail and the Evening Standard, before it was released in 1997 and, as part of a wider study, demonstrated how difficult it was for the Board to operate at the intersection of so many interests, namely the press, public opinion and national government.

The film, based on JG Ballard’s book which depicted dysfunctional people getting their sexual kicks from car crashes was bound to cause trouble, just how much will be shown in a talk to be given by Paddy Collyer on Thursday 22nd May.

Paddie Collyer studied for her MA in Film at Westminster University. She was awarded a bursary to study for a PhD at Southampton Solent University where she also taught on the BA (Hons) in Journalism. Her Thursday talk, 'The Last Gasp of Outrage’ is based on some of her research.
