Mondy 5 May – 7 pm – St Catherine’s Church – Tickets £12.00
Dutch violinist Tim Kliphuis is a legend in the gypsy world through his work with the top guitarists. Classically trained, he honed his improvisation skills on tour with the Rosenberg Trio, Richard Galliano and many others, and is widely regarded as the heir to Stéphane Grappelli’s crown.
Tim takes the gypsy jazz style several masterful leaps forward by mixing it with classical and folk music. This fresh and popular approach has taken him on a busy touring schedule including America, Japan, South Africa, the UK, Russia and Europe. He has shared the stage with legends Frankie Gavin and Les Paul and has been lauded for his musical genius by Nigel Kennedy. His music has been featured on the BBC, Classic FM, Deutsche Rundfunk, American Public Radio and Dutch national television.
Tim holds the Jazz violin chair at Tilburg Conservatoire and hosts an annual sell-out Gypsy Jazz violin camp back home in Holland every August. He is also a contributor to string magazine The Strad.
He will be accompanied by the excellent local trio of Jim Thorn on piano, John Thorne on double bass, and Ken Black on drums.
