The Earl Mountbatten Hospice needs to raise £30,000 each year to provide an ‘At Home Nursing Service’ so that our patients can be cared for in their own home day & night.

On the 31st March the ‘Field of Memories’ in Newchurch will be open for an afternoon of remembrance. This beautiful field of yellow was planted with kind permission of Mr & Mrs Boswell. On this day you will be able to walk the daffodil trail and place a wooden sunflower planter with your loved one’s name on if you should wish amongst the flowers.

This year there will be a chance to join our guided wildlife walk of Martin’s Wood. The various trees and shrubs planted in 2001 provide food and shelter for a rich variety of animal life. We will become nature detectives looking for signs of mammals. If lucky we may spot a Red Squirrel , one of the species given special consideration in the planting. Many of our resident birds will have started exhibiting breeding behaviour and have begun establishing territories with some already nesting.

We will also meet a representative of the Bee Survey Team who will describe how the area , with its sandy soil, provides a habitat for an extraordinary variety of ground nesting bees and wasps.

The walk, of around one kilometre should last about 45 minutes. Stout footwear is advisable.

All visitors to the field should park in the School Close Car Park and follow the signs for the Daffodil Trail from there.
