After their delightful concerts last year, it is good to hear that the Simon Langton Grammar School For Boys Chamber Choir - who are from Canterbury - are returning to the Island in December for a further short tour.

The choir is a soprano, alto, tenor and bass ensemble, consisting of approximately fifteen confident singers and sight readers of music.

The sight reading requirement is necessary due to a very limited rehearsal time of twenty five minutes per week.

The boys like to perform an eclectic mix of music, and they perform regularly in school concerts, and annually in School Carol and Commendation services held in Cantebury Cathedral.

They have also performed in concerts and competitions at a variety of venues around Kent.

The choir are often asked to perform challenging GCSE and 'A' level compositions written by their fellow students.

The choir is conducted by Emily Temel. Emily is very well known in classical music circles on the Island. both as a solo singer and as a member of the Orpheus Singers.

She was a pupil at Cowes High School before going on to study music at Canterbury Christ Church University.

On their tour the choir will be giving three festive concerts of solo, ensemble and instrumental music. There will be a retiring collection at the end of the concerts for amenity and restoration projects at the respective churches.

The concert details are as follows:

Friday, December 10th Niton Parish Church, Church Street, Niton

Saturday, December 11th St Catherine's Church, Ventnor

Saturday, December 11th St Marys Church, Brading 8.00pm
