SUITABLE for children 5+ years. ( primary) All children must be accompanied by their parent/guardian.

Do you have your Ocean challenge sheet at the ready? Come and join us on a walk under the pier to help complete your rockpool/intertidal challenge. If you don't have a Ocean challenge activity sheet don't worry you can pick one up from us on the day. The Ocean challenge has lots of great activities for you to do at the beach and also there are some great prizes up for grabs including tickets to Tapnell Farm and a voucher to create your own Rapanui t shirt!!

Join us under the pier to find out more about the seaweeds and animals that can be found on our coast. The pier has provided a place for creatures to hold on to and live under in this sand shifting environment and many more that have managed this environment by burrowing down in to the sand... As we observe creatures in this habitat we can think about the adaptations they have made to cope with living in the intertidal zone- one moment covered by cool sea water and the other exposed to the air and elements as the tides ebb and flow! Grab a hand lens and get up close to some sea hare eggs, gently turn over stones and who knows we might find a star fish or fragile porcelain crabs..

Looking forward to all of us sharing our knowledge and enthusiasm for this amazing environment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please bring suitable layers for the day and a drink. Please wear wellies or boots ( unfortunately we cannot take you out if you turn up in open toed shoes or sandals for safety reasons).

Please meet on the walkway in front of Western gardens next to the pier https://goo.gl/maps/5BNUgPr3ocycubeo6

Tickets are free, however, donations are gratefully accepted on the day. Donations will help us deliver our Coastal Kids workshops throughout the year.
