The Isle of Wight Photographic Society (IWPS) is holding its annual Exhibition at Ryde Library, upstairs in the gallery, from 1st – 24th November. On display, will be photos from the Society’s members.

The society was established in 1945, although there is some evidence to indicate that the Society had its origins in the late 19th century. Nevertheless, we are the oldest photographic club on the Island.

We cater for all abilities and our aim is to enable you to improve and enjoy photography. Our founding objective was “to encourage members in developing their skills in Art and Science of Photography “. Basically, this remains our objective today.

There are experienced members who are willing to offer their help. Regular competitions are held; those are for prints and projected digital images. From time to time, there are opportunities for members to undertake projects and assignments, including support to community groups on the Isle of Wight. (St Mary’s Hospital, Northwood House see: Community Activities Gallery on our web site)

We meet face to face at Arreton Community Hall or via Zoom every Wednesday from September to May and also in addition there will be a Saturday morning Hub session 10.00-12.00 at Quay Arts Centre in Newport on the last Saturday in the month. The Hub is an informal get together to explore editing techniques, ask for help etc.
