The RVYC has been welcoming guests to its Open Day for People with Disabilities since 1981, which was the first International Year of Disabled Persons.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday 2 July from 11am to 4pm. Over 120 guests will be joining us for trips out on the water, a BBQ lunch, tea and cakes.

A variety of boats will be available for our disabled guests to take trips along Wootton Creek and out into The Solent. Some will venture out on fast RIBs, while our wheel-chair users can get afloat on Wet Wheels or Spirit of Scott Bader.

The Deputy Lord Lieutenant; Mary Case, Bob Seely MP, Parish Council Chair; Malcolm Hector and IW Councillor; Ian Dore will join us to spend time with our guests.

Invited guests include Sight for Wight (IW Society for the Blind), Parkinson’s UK, Mountbatten, Cowes, Ryde and Ventnor Physically Disabled, Ryde House, Southern Housing, Achieve Together, plus individual Island families with disabled members.

The event couldn’t happen without the support of RVYC members who give their time (and boats) on and off the water.

We wish to acknowledge and thank the event donors including Fishbourne Parish Council, Daisie Rich Trust and Wightlink. Also, we give thanks to Wightlink and our local residents for allowing our guests to park without charge.
