Quarr Abbey Art Gallery, Quarr Abbey Ryde, Isle of Wight PO33 4ES Thursday 8 to Tuesday 13 July 2018 10am to 5pm - Free admission to Exhibition, Abbey Church and Grounds

Quarr Abbey will be hosting a Summer Show, featuring a collection of unique and distinctive handmade, hand-carved studio ceramics and complementary textured, innovative wall art, in addition to ceramic tile panels, wall plaques and contemporary standing forms. This is an opportunity to view Andrew Dowden's work and buy directly from the artist. Quarr Abbey receives a percentage of all exhibition sales.

Ideas and designs for his ceramic work come from various sources including nature, history, architecture and archaeology. 'Pottery has been made on the Island since Neolithic times,' says Andrew. 'Learning about pottery and actually working through the different stages of each making process, has made me appreciate this ancient art form.' Andrew was inspired to take up ceramics whilst researching a book on Isle of Wight pottery. 'I primarily make pieces for my own interest and satisfaction but it pleases me to know that people who buy my work also appreciate it.'

Surface texture and form are Andrew's main interest, and textured designs have also been incorporated into his oil-painted wall art. A former carpenter, Andrew makes the boards and frames for his wall panels.

Andrew will be in attendance throughout the exhibition and will be happy to chat with visitors about his work. Quarr Abbey Art Gallery will be open from 10am-5pm each day. Admission is free to the exhibition, the Abbey Church and grounds. Car parking is also free, and facilities include a tea shop, farm shop, toilets and disabled access.
