There has not been a lack of celebrated female artists in the history of art but, despite achieving fame in their time, they subsequently disappeared from the mainstream narrative. This lecture will remind us of the talent of these missing women; from Marcia in antiquity to Eva Gonzales in the 19th Century, Sofonisba Anguissola in the Renaissance to Michaelina Wautier in the 17th Century. Aliki Braine reintroduces these artists and asks why and how they disappeared.
