The Arts Society, Isle of Wight, will be presenting the latest lecture of its season on TUESDAY 3rd MAY at 2pm, at Northwood House, Cowes
Every month the society hosts top rated experts in their fields, to give illustrated lectures on a wide variety of subjects connected to fine art, including painting, sculpture, music, history etc.
This month the subject is. Gauguins’s Discovery of the Primitive By Kathy McLauchlan
Paul Gauguin’s search for the unspoilt took him to Brittany, Martinique and the South Pacific. This lecture concentrates on the work he produced in Brittany in the late 1890s. He rejected modernity and, in comparison to other artists of this time, he evolved a ‘primitive’ form of art experimenting with bold colours and shapes to express his simple vision.
