The Arts Society, Isle of Wight, will be presenting the latest lecture of its season on TUESDAY 3rd MAY at 2pm, at Northwood House, Cowes

Every month the society hosts top rated experts in their fields, to give illustrated lectures on a wide variety of subjects connected to fine art, including painting, sculpture, music, history etc.

This month the subject is. Gauguins’s Discovery of the Primitive By Kathy McLauchlan

Paul Gauguin’s search for the unspoilt took him to Brittany, Martinique and the South Pacific. This lecture concentrates on the work he produced in Brittany in the late 1890s. He rejected modernity and, in comparison to other artists of this time, he evolved a ‘primitive’ form of art experimenting with bold colours and shapes to express his simple vision.

The Isle of Wight Society membership is now open. Application forms are available from the website. www.theartssocietyisleofwight.org.uk

There are a limited number of places for visitors at all lectures for £10 per person but booking must be made in advance to Email [email protected]
Most Lectures are now also broadcast on Zoom for members who for some reason cannot attend in person
