Around 1900 Vienna was a cultural hotbed. It was the capital of a vast empire and produced many painters such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Josef Hoffman, along with psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, composer Gustav Mahler and philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein.
