The Arts Society, Isle of Wight, will be presenting its second lecture of its season on TUESDAY 2ndNovember at 2pm, at Northwood House, Cowes.

Every month the society hosts top rated experts in their fields, to give illustrated lectures on a wide variety of subjects connected to fine art, including painting, sculpture, music, history etc.

This month’s lecture is: A Dickens of a Christmas & God Bless You Everyone By Bertie Pearce.

Charles Dickens is seen as “The Man Who Invented Christmas”. Dickens set the tone for the traditional Christmas with plum pudding, turkey, game and dancing in a family setting.

A Christmas Carol, published in December 1843, immortalises the spirit and magic of Christmas cheer. In this lecture Bertie Price presents the Dickensian Christmas with readings, biographical details and conjuring tricks.
