Would you be able to help save a life? As part of British Heart Week (7 to 15 June), Isle of Wight Oddfellows is inviting the public and its members to a life-saving demonstration on Friday10 June from 1.30-3.30pm
The demonstration will take place at the Methodist Church Hall, Quay Street, Newport PO30 5BA.
Louise Walker from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust Ambulance Service will demonstrate how to use a defibrillator and perform CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
She explained,
“Cardiac arrest can occur at any time and place. Therefore, it is vital that our community know how to: recognise cardiac arrest, call for an Ambulance, perform CPR and safely use a defibrillator (if available). With this knowledge and these skills, it greatly increases the casualty’s chance of survival from an out of hospital cardiac arrest.”
The Vecta Branch of the Oddfellows is a friendship group whose island members meet regularly to socialise, fundraise and support each other. Events coming up, where newcomers are welcome to attend, include card afternoons, group walks, Crazy Golf and Ten Pin Bowling.
To book your place on the British Heart Week event, or to receive a copy of the group’s events diary, contact Vecta Oddfellows’ Branch Secretary Maretta Heap on 01983 523115 or email [email protected].
