BBC Young Musician Keyboard winner at West Wight Arts Association

Thomas Luke of Ryde, who won the keyboard section of the Young Musician of the Year 2020, will give a piano recital for West Wight Arts Association at the Memorial Hall, Freshwater on Saturday November 6th starting at 7.00pm.

Thomas, who is 18, has also recently been awarded first place in the 2021 Iris Dyer Piano Prize at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, and been recognised by the Vienna International Music Competition as possessing "outstanding talent, a remarkable musicality and a very accomplished technique".

Thomas began piano lessons at the age of four and currently studies with Eleanor Hodgkinson at the Junior Royal Academy of Music in London. Thomas has been the recipient of the Richard Toeman Memorial Award for Young Pianists and a Robert Lewin Scholarship from Awards for Young Musicians.

He will play Bach’s Toccata in B major, Chopin’s monumental third piano sonata, Ravel’s Miroirs and Prokofiev’s third sonata in A minor. A demanding programme which will show off his amazing prowess as well as West Wight Arts Association’s newly refurbished Steinway.

Tickets at £15.00 (£2.00 students and children) are available from or Totland Parish Office on 756028. Audience numbers are limited, masks will be worn and we shall open windows and doors in the interval so wear something warm.
