Goldberg variations

"exquisitely detailed playing" Birmingham Post “a very special, very beautiful sound” International Schubert Competition

Following the huge success of his solo recital in the Ventnor Fringe in August, join Steinway Artist and Island resident James Longford for an evening of Bach on the beautiful Steinway at the Memorial Hall in Freshwater.

Johann Sebastian Bach's Aria and Variations, known as the Goldberg Variations, was the largest single keyboard composition published in the 18th century. In it Bach displays his utter command of the popular musical styles of the day, the most advanced virtuoso techniques, and his mastery of writing canons at varying intervals. This sublime work takes the listener on a journey into the mind of a genius at work, at the height of his creativity. James won the Tagore Gold Medal during his studies at the Royal College of Music and was organ scholar of St Martin-in-the-Fields. After many years as a freelancer in London he is now based on the Island and is delighted to be able to perform for Island audiences, and raise money for this incredible charity.

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma, a blood cancer arising from plasma cells. At any one time there are around 24,000 people living with myeloma in the UK.
