In partnership with This Is Nowhere, we are delighted to welcome back to the Island Tunde Jegede and Sunara Begum for two performances of traditional and contemporary dance, music and movement.

Tunde is a kora player and composer, and this visit sees a collaboration with Japanese female dance artist and Butoh practitioner Yumino Seki to bring a personal reflection and cultural expression that transcends boundaries. Together with live performance artist Sunara, they will perform new music and dance especially for this show drawn from their seminal pieces 'Gekka' and 'En'.

Their show -entitled 'Who Am I ?' is an exploration of the body as memory and the intrinsic landscape of music.

Butoh is a Japanese avant-garde dance which emerged from the post-war chaos in the 1950's when the country grappled with the clash between the new Western technology and traditional Japanese values.

African Classical Music is an idiom pioneered by Tunde to preserve the cultural legacies and classical traditions of Africa through music. Drawing from ancient traditions,he has developed a distinct acoustic classical sound.

Tickets are £14 each (£12 concessions) and can be booked in advance by phoning 01983-730930 or online from www.wegottickets.com
