Dunstan perera transcending border

This exhibition is in our tearoom so is free to view.

Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Dunstan Perera is a visual artist photographer, lecturer, teacher and filmmaker. His work has been exhibited internationally in both solo and collaborative exhibitions in Europe, USA and Asia.

As a filmmaker and special stills photographer he has worked on various feature films and directed documentaries for Channel 4. He also worked on an experimental short film for BFI entitled Viola, which had a music score especially composed by Ravi Shankar. Perera has devoted his life to experimenting with alternative photographic printing techniques and he firmly believes that the camera can be used in the same way an artist uses a sketch pad. His interest in photography began at the age of eight and was greatly influenced by the work of Lionel Wendt, a Sri Lankan photographer and cinematographer.

Perera's unique technique utilises polymers and mostly earth pigments that were used by the cave painters, and his latest method creates photographs that resemble a painting, etching or a charcoal drawing. Perera's work has been exhibited at Saatchi & Saatchi, Simpson's, Piccadilly, Ilford Gallery, Ikonographic Gallery, Cologne, Pan AM Gallery, New York and McKenzie's Gallery, Hollywood, US.

His prints are also held in the private collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. For further info please contact: Sunara Begum [email protected] +447929 874 327
