On Easter Sunday, 9th April we are proud to announce the return of Woodstock Festival hero Barry Melton, founder member of Country Joe and the Fish, one of the most influential psychedelic groups that emerged from San Francisco during the 1960s.This time Barry will be appearing with a full band, none other than all the members of the fabulous band who backed Greg Douglass from The Steve Miller Band at Dimbola last year – a sensational gig with a capacity audience! Not only that, but they’ll be joined by top Parisian guitarist and banjo player Stephane Missri, who collaborates with Barry in the acclaimed Paris based band Jamasutra.

Country Joe and the Fish released their debut album, “Electric Music For The Mind & Body”, which in the U.K was consistently featured by John Peel on his radio show. The album was a chart success, has never been out of print, and unfailingly appears in lists of the all time top psychedelic albums. During 1967’s “Summer of Love” Country Joe and the Fish were rocketed onto the world stage at the Monterey Pop Festival together with The Jefferson Airplane, The Who and Jimi Hendrix, who all starred at the early Isle of Wight Festivals between 1968 and 1970. All four bands played 1969’s legendary Woodstock Festival, and their performances were immortalised in “Woodstock”, acknowledged as the best music festival film ever. From 1970 onwards Barry released a number of solo albums, recorded two albums with Man in Rockfield Studios in Wales, and toured extensively in the UK, France, the Netherlands, Ireland and even Thailand. In the 1980s, Barry formed San Francisco’s historic supergroup, The Dinosaurs, which also featured members of Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin’s band Big Brother And The Holding Company and Robert Hunter, The Grateful Dead’s lyricist. Barry now fronts his own band in the U.S.A, and in France is lead guitarist with Jamasutra, who recorded the acclaimed album “Revolution Down the Road”. Advance tickets (£9) are available online here via Paypal. You can also purchase advance tickets from us in person (cash preferred)- or pay £10 on the door. The event starts at 5pm sharp, and Dimbola Tea Room & Coffee House will be for food until then with a cash bar available in the interval.
