15th February to 1st November 2020

1,500 year old Anglo-Saxon treasures discovered on the Isle of Wight by Victorians, conserved by the British Museum, are now returning to the Island in an upcoming exhibition in February at Carisbrooke Castle Museum.

These objects have never been exhibited on the Island and as little is known about the Anglo-Saxons, objects like this are all the more valuable.

Carisbrooke Castle Museum was founded in 1898 by HRH Princess Beatrice, Queen Victoria’s youngest daughter, and is today managed by a local charitable trust. It is housed within the Governor’s House of Carisbrooke Castle, a site in the care of English Heritage.

The loan is supported by the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund. Created by the Garfield Weston Foundation and Art Fund, the Weston Loan Programme is the first ever UK-wide funding scheme to enable smaller and local authority museums to borrow works of art and artefacts from national collections.

A programme of events will also be offered during the exhibition.
