Ryde artist Lyndy Moles leading the exhibition explains:
“An artist book is a medium of artistic expression that uses the form or function of a ‘book’ as inspiration (as defined by the Smithsonian Library); however there is no formal consensus, creators of artists’ books certainly stretch the concept of ‘what is a book’.
Traditional, experimental or contemporary, each of these books has been imagined and hand-made by an artist and I hope this exhibition demonstrates the unlimited ways a book can tell a story or even be the story.
There are as many reasons for making a book as there are book artists creating these structures. From working through an experience of bullying to commemorating an event, recycling the contents of a wastepaper basket to raising awareness for a theme and - not forgetting of course - for the pleasure of creativity.”
To celebrate World Book Day, what better than illustrating the genre of artists’ books - Enjoy!
