Paul woods plastic world

Paul Woods, born in London, started out as an architectural model-maker. Now based in Ventnor, his installations, often made from reclaimed materials, have been exhibited in Berlin, Zurich, Prague and at Quay Arts in Newport. He never lost his childhood passion for building things, from model soldiers to spaceships, and now enjoys "playing" with toys and models again. What others see as worthless, he sees as bits of art waiting to be assembled. Often, what first appears jovial, has a darker message. In present times that inevitably involves environmental concerns.

His "Plastic World" project showing now until 19th March at Aspire Ryde’s shop gallery (35 High Street) is based on the idea that one day in the future, plastics will be a highly sought after commodity. No more oil can be removed from the Earth, therefore no new plastics produced, and plastic becomes the world's most valuable currency...

Open Tues - Sat (7th - 19th March 2020)

Paul has recently opened "Paradox Island" in Ventnor, 68 High Street, a gallery with an emphasis on creative recycling, showing works made by himself and other Island-based artists. (More artists and workshop ideas welcome!).
