Part of Ventnor Fringe Festival 2021

Dream blown borderland2 1

Arthouselife @ 35 Madeira Road opens again for Ventnor Fringe Festival in July, with free tours of recent artworks that reflect loss, change and transformation for seven featured artists.

Albedo Marz MA RCA: Paintings, Collages
Enigmata
Medium-scale paintings that are a quiet celebration of the joy and power of love.

The Winds of Inertia
Small-scale collages that invoke a luminal space between night and day in a world characterised by a pathology of excess, in which historical memory lies in ruins.

Dream-Blown Borderlands
Large-scale landscapes that are spaces from a broken world, accommodating geography and psyche, history and science, myth and storytelling.

Graham Stewart RA: Paintings, Video
A Painting is a Hungry Beast
In Herman Melville’s novel ‘Moby Dick’ he describes an old besmoked painting hanging above a fireplace, so blackened that no one can know with certainty its original subject. Doubt and speculation inevitably fill the void; ‘constantly becoming’ is a quality usually attributed to abstract painting and is perhaps the most alluring of encounters for a painter to present to an audience.

Isabelle Kori and Sam French: Objects, Video, Photographs
IoW Foundation Diploma in Art and Design
Experimental and collaborative artworks produced by Island VI Form students this year prior to leaving for university to study Fine Art and Photography respectively.

Joanna Kori M.A.RCA: Installations, Drawings, Photographs
EllenMacArthur Foundation Virtual Art Residency 2021
Exclusive opportunity to view studio works prior to transferral to the EMF Cowes offices. Includes: Conversation drawings; ‘A murmuration of teacups’ suspended gumstrip cast installation; Wall Essay: ‘Pissholes in the Snow’; Photographic Essay: ‘Everything I would have thrown away’.

Julian Winslow and Sue Paraskeva: Ceramics, Video, Photographs
Ryde Arts Covid Commission 2021
Collaborative artwork ‘Passage’ exploring themes of death and transition. Produced remotely by recording conversations, documenting responses via film, photography, clay, drawings.
