Following the success of Project:Opera's second Isle of Wight Summer Opera Fest, the company's core artists have decided that for the third year, it is time to expand into bringing full operas to the island.
As first step in that direction, the company have been gathering local student and amateur singers to form the Project:Opera Amateur Chorus, which will support the company's professional artists in a semi-staged production of Bizet's famous tragedy: Carmen.
Carmen is a story of love, devotion, passion, obsession and ultimately, jealous vengeance: Don Jose' leaves his mother's home and his devoted fiancee, Micaela, to join the army, only to fall madly in love with Carmen, a fiercely independent Gipsy woman, who soon finds herself drawn to the handsome toreador, Escamillo. Carmen's friends may yet warn her that the future is not a bed of roses, as the cards predict nothing good. Sung in French, with English narration.
