The Supporters of Cowes Library will be holding an Annual General Meeting on Monday 11th November 6.30 - 7pm at Cowes Library. Find out how we have helped Cowes Library and our forthcoming plans. There will also be an illustrated talk entitled 'A Tale of Two Shipwrecks' – The Isle of Wight Heritage Service will be talking about their work and introduce the new exhibition at the Museum of Island History. 'A Tale of Two Shipwrecks’ the exhibition explores two very different shipwrecks located off the Isle of Wight. Find out more about the loss of HMS Pomone who was wrecked off the Needles in 1811. There are incredible artefacts on display at the Museum of Island History which belonged to members of the ship’s crew and passengers including; A pair of sugar tongs, part of a sextant, and a syringe from a doctor’s kit. The loss of the Pomone is documented through extensive letters and diaries, these bring alive the events of the fateful night and provide an insight into the characters on board. The exhibition will also tell the tale of the Yarmouth Roads Wreck; this mystery ship is thought to be a late 16th century Spanish merchant carrack. This wreck is located just off Yarmouth Pier and is marked by a large yellow buoy. Staff from the Heritage Service will bring artefacts out of store for you to explore ‘hands on’.

Refreshments will be available.
