Lutradur

Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to explore a favourite historic object from the displays at Carisbrooke Castle Museum through the medium of paint and stitch on Lutradur.

Working with textile artist Diana Parsons you’ll spend the day in the museum’s medieval great hall, surrounded by displays of historic artefacts from which you’ll be able to draw inspiration. Working in a small group you’ll paint with acrylics onto the Lutradur, a surface suitable for textiles, use a sewing machine as a drawing tool and embellished with hand stitching. Enhance your designs further with words stitched into the design.

To introduce the day, Diana will give a short talk describing the work she produced for the ‘Out of the Box exhibition at Carisbrooke with demonstrations of technique and discussion of ideas and then guide you through the activities broadly outlined below.

Experiment with applying acrylic paints on sample pieces of Lutradur Choose your subject matter Transfer your designs onto Lutradur Select your colour palette and paint your chosen design Explore free machine embroidery, including embroidered writing and hand stitching. The emphasis will be on exploration, discovery, perhaps learning new skills and having fun. You will be supported throughout with one to one tuition and demonstrations at every stage.
