There are a myraid of planning changes being considered at government level, to make some areas of planning permissions, including unconventional fossil fuel extraction, permitted development.

This would take the responsibility for much of the decision making away from local authorities and the community.

This updated presentation gives more information about the current situation and how it could affect the supposed pending application for permission to extract oil from Arreton.

It is important that people on the island understand the reality of this situation and how it will impact their rights to democratically oppose unwanted developments in the future.
