West Wight Arts Association’s contribution to the commemoration of the First World War will be to present a concert entitled “A Dream of Germany – Music’s War torn world” on November 12th in the Memorial Hall, Freshwater, starting at 7.00pm.
It will be given by the renowned pianist, composer and broadcaster David Owen Norris, cellist Joseph Spooner and tenor Mark Wilde.
The music they will perform reflects both the collaboration before the war and the cessation of it during and immediately after the war. So we will be treated to music by Mendelssohn as well as British composers who were involved in or affected by the first World War.
David Owen Norris says that “The sudden loss of centuries of fertile musical exchange between Britain and the great cultural centres of Germany is one of the least appreciated consequences of the Great War.”
Tickets at £12.50 (£2.00 students and children) are available from Totland Parish Office, 756028, from www.westwightarts.co.uk or at the door. Season tickets for the remaining 6 concerts of the season are available from Malcolm Tait 752544 or [email protected].
