Freshwater Film Club present ... Sunrise (US - 1927) (Silent screening with live piano accompaniment) (93 mins – b/w) Dir: F.W. Murnau Cast: Janet Gaynor, George O’Brien & Margaret Livingston
A vacationing woman (Livingston) entices a man (O’Brien) away from his failing farm and urges him to drown his wife (Gaynor) in a lake before moving with her to the city. The plan fails and the couple flee to the city where she forgives him. After a tearful reconciliation, they enjoy the sights before tragedy strikes.
This groundbreaking film features many traits of German Expressionism that first brought Murnau to the attention of the Hollywood studios. The enormous stylized interiors, a city street set and the cinematic innovations included here, make for breathtaking viewing.
Season membership for the Freshwater Film Club is £21.00 per person, which covers all eight films. The entrance fee for an individual screening is £3.00 on the door.
We recommend that season membership of the club is obtained in advance of the first screening, by contacting Debra at Freshwater Memorial Hall. Tel; 01983 752956 [email protected]
