Jig Doll is an exciting new project created by folk singer, musician and dancer Hannah James. Her first solo venture, Jig Doll combines all of these disciplines in a beautiful new show inspired by the life of the travelling player.
More than just a concert, Jig Doll uses newly-composed music and innovative stage techniques to weave a magical atmosphere around percussive dance.
Each performance will see Hannah build the music live using loop pedals and instruments. Her own dynamic rhythms then become the centre piece of the music through a specially designed dance platform, incorporating a range of sounds and surfaces, which take instrumental foot percussion to a new level.
Finally, she dances to the musical accompaniment that she has created, like the traditional travelling player, truly a one-woman band. Please see www.jigdoll.co.uk for further information.
Hannah has emerged as one of the most imaginative and adventurous artists on the folk scene. First coming to national attention as accordion player and singer with the band Kerfuffle, she was in an acclaimed duo with Bellowhead's Sam Sweeney, and she is also a member of the female vocal harmony trio Lady Maisery.
Hannah went down a storm on her last Isle of Wight appearance supporting Steeleye Span at Shanklin Theatre.
Innovative four-piece Island band Little Lemon will be performing a support slot downstairs at 7.30pm and the Jig Doll show will start upstairs in the Theatre at 8.30pm.
Tickets are £12.00 each and can be obtained in advance by phoning Quay Arts on 01983-822490, or you can book online at www.quayarts.org
