Part of Isle of Wight Film Festival 2014
90mins – 35mm Colour – Certificate: 15 – 1973 – Dir: Claude Whatham – Drama
Shot on the Isle of Wight in 1973 and starring David Essex, Ringo Starr, Billy Fury and Keith Moon it is about a teenager abandoned by his father at an early age.
Jim MacLaine seems to have inherited the old man’s restlessness. Despite his apparent intelligence, Jim decides not to take the exams that would pave his way to university. He lives, for a time, a life consisting of dead-end jobs and meaningless sex, before returning home to work in his mother’s shop.
But still he can’t settle down; he begins to think that the life of a pop musician might be the thing for him.
IOWFF film trivia: The film was shot by the same DOP Peter Suschitzy who shot the Empire Strikes Back and Mars Attacks… and produced by David Puttman the producer of Local Hero and Chariots of Fire.
All IOWFF screenings are £5 at the Sacred Cinema.
