The Medina Extended Schools Partnership in collaboration with Quay Arts and Medina High School has created an exciting opportunity for an artist to work across the cluster with a common theme during March.

Using the Quay Arts Learning Curve Gallery as a base, Chris Cudlip - the artist in residence will be offering a range of workshops around the theme of Nomadic Life and Culture to invited schools.

Chris Cudlip is a sculptor based in the UK, working on commissions, prop-making, puppets and figurative sculptures.

The Medina Yurt will be the focus of the work and workshops in and around the Yurt which will be erected in the Learning Curve Gallery for the duration of the residency.

The 4 week residency will culminate in an End of Show Celebration in the Gallery on Saturday 27 March 2010, to which you are all welcome to attend. Time will be confirmed shortly.

This artist in residence scheme has been made possible by the completion of a successful project last year delivered by Medina High School when the Medina Yurt with a full decorative felt covering was created.

The Medina Yurt has been used in a variety of locations since its completion as a portable learning environment. This has included the IOW Rock Festival, Bestival, DHR Festival and several schools.

As the Medina Yurt is such a fantastic resource and created by the Island Community, the next stage in the sustainability of the original idea is to use the Medina Yurt to explore and develop the theme further with the partnership of schools and wider community.
