'Telenesia' is an imaginary island (tele = far away, nesia = island), cast adrift in a sea of lost and broken fragments of film, video and pixels - a celebration of the glitches and scratches, it is the place of forgotten media.
Within the world of a lost archive of film footage, 'Telenesia' reconstructs visions of fading archetypes which appear out of the decaying images.
The video installation combines sculpture and physical computing to allow visitors to immerse and explore broken machines through buttons and dials on TV sets. Conjuring glimpses and glitches within a world of lost archive film footage, whilst recreating the experience of being stranded in the middle of an empty ocean with only the washed-up decaying remains of civilisation to distract from the sound and light of the sea.
'Telenesia' is also configured for the web and will allow visitors to download and remix content used within the exhibition. A curated exhibition of works by invited international artists; Ian Helliwell, Rosa Menkman and Anders Weberg, will also be exhibited developing on themes from 'Telenesia'.
A limited edition book accompanies this exhibition.
This exhibition is supported by ACE Lottery. www.telenesia.com
