Thompson House Tuition Centre in the Learning Curve Gallery
Exhibition: Sat 18 Dec 2010 – Sat 22 Jan 2011
Private View: Fri 17 Dec 10.30 – 11.30am
As part of the national enquire programme, students at Thompson House Tuition Centre have been working with Quay Arts’ Artist Educators to create work in response to exhibitions they have visited in the gallery spaces.
Students were encouraged to broaden their creative understanding of art and to develop their ability to generate innovative responses.
‘Spudtopia’ is the students’ direct response to a piece they saw in the recent Quilt Art exhibition in The West Gallery. The students and artist Tim Johnson used four sacks of potatoes in the exhibition, which explores ideals of future architecture.
Background
Thompson House Tuition centre is a Short Stay School which supports young people with a variety of needs. Key Stage 1 and 2 students attend the Centre if they are experiencing behavioural difficulties, whilst our Key stage 3 and 4 students attend based on medical needs.
The enquire project gave students the opportunity to work creatively outside the classroom and develop their own skills as artists. The art curriculum at Thompson House is an important part of all students’ development - creative, academic and social.
The enquire programme is funded jointly by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, the Department for Education and Arts Council England as part of the Strategic Commissioning Programme for Museum and Gallery Education.
The enquire programme is managed by engage and has been developed in association with Arts Council England.
