Mark your mark

‘Make your Mark for 2012’ is a collaboration between ‘No Man is an Island’, Quay Arts and the Isle of Wight Branch of the National Autistic Society (NAS) to grow an exhibition and celebrate the London2012 Paralympics. The exhibition will reflect on ‘No Man is an Island’s work during the Cultural Olympiad, with dedicated workshops for NAS families to collect images to be included in a commemorative textile work.

No Man is an Island was founded in response to the launch of the Cultural Olympiad, to celebrate the creative lives of families living with autism. Quay Arts played a pivotal role in collaborating with the Project, hosting exhibitions, workshops and the annual London2012 Open Weekend events.

No Man is an Island is one of the London2012 Inspire mark projects whose work during the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad will be commemorated in a permanent memorial in the Olympic Park.

The unique Inspire Legacy Plaque will go on permanent display in the Olympic Park after the Games to commemorate the special contribution Inspire projects have made to London 2012.

The plaque will be unveiled shortly after the Paralympic Games and be housed in the Copper Box (previously known as the Handball Arena) which will become a leisure centre after the Games. The plaque has been designed in such a way that every Inspire project/event has the opportunity to be included. The plaque will be made up of hundreds of “mini-plaques” from the Inspire projects.

Quay Arts will host a ‘Make a medal’ drop-in family workshop on Saturday 8th September 2-3:30pm and Melanie Swan will lead studio-based textile workshops for NAS parents / carers on Friday 7th and Sunday 9th September 2:30-4pm.

(For information and to book a place on the textile workshops, contact Melanie Swan at [email protected] or call her at 07531 151782).
