The Freshwater & Totland Archive Group is setting up a display to commemorate the end of World War 1 on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th November in Freshwater.

The venue is the vacant shop next to “J & B Fisheries” Avenue Road.

Many West Wight men and women were involved in the war, and this display will remember and honour them.

The display can be viewed from 10.00 am until 3.30 pm on each day. Amongst the interesting items that can be seen are images of Afton Lodge in Afton Road. Perhaps, it is not generally known that in 1914 Mr G H Duncan of Afton Lodge kindly allowed it to be used during the war as a Military hospital for sick and wounded soldiers and sailors.

It was staffed by the V.A.D.’s of The British Red Cross Society and organised by Lady Audrey Tennyson.
