Directed by Ridley Scott from a Philip K Dick novel, Blade Runner is set in a dystopian future (next year actually: 2019!). Grizzled bounty hunter Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is on a mission to execute a mutinous gang of replicants. But is Deckard - the eponymous Blade Runner - actually a replicant himself? This influential pop-culture creation is one of the most sumptuous art-directed films. But studio conflicts and the director's initial defenestration led to a less than fully successful launch. Only in the Final Cut version of 2007 - the one being screened in Ryde - did Ridley Scott's vision reach its fullest expression. With it, Scott's unfinished symphony was at last complete.
