Andrew, an ambitious young jazz drummer, is desperate to rise to the top of his music conservatory class, but is haunted by his father's failed writing career.

When he is discovered by the talented but terrifying conductor Terence Fletcher, Andrew's burning desire to achieve perfection turns into an obsession that alienates him from his friends and family and pushes him to the edge of his sanity. The pace never lets up in this dynamic and emotional story set to an accompaniment of an explosive soundtrack of original songs and big band classics.
